Objectionable play ‘Raahovan’ on Ramayana cost dearly, IIT Bombay fined 1.2 lakhs on students!

A few days ago, the students of IIT Mumbai created a stir by presenting a play named ‘Rahovan’. The youth playing the role of Ram and Sita in the play were accused of insulting Ram and Sita through their costumes and dialogues. In this case, the Mumbai IIT management has sent a notice to impose a fine of Rs 1.2 lakh on the students. This play was presented in the annual meeting of IIT Mumbai. Another group of students complained that Ram and Sita were insulted due to the characters dressed as Sita and Ram. So the opinion of those who supported this play was that this play was a progressive play.

IIT Mumbai has imposed a heavy fine on students for allegedly presenting an objectionable play based on Ramayana at the annual Kalamahotsav. The play was presented at the annual festival of IIT Mumbai. Some student organizations allege that Ram-Sita have been insulted in the play. After an investigation conducted by the IIT Mumbai administration, IIT Bombay has sent a notice of a fine of Rs 1.2 lakh to the students. IIT Mumbai students presented a play named ‘Rahovan’ at the annual art festival. Some complaints were received regarding this play. It is alleged that the students presented the characters of Ram and Sita in an objectionable manner in the play. However, some students said that there was nothing objectionable in the play. The students felt that the play was progressive and everyone appreciated it.

Disciplinary Committee Meeting

After the performance of the play in the festival, some student organizations complained about the play. The student organization has complained that the play has hurt their culture and religious sentiments. After these complaints, a meeting of the disciplinary committee was called. In this meeting, those students were also called against whom the complaint was made. After this, both the sides were heard. After much deliberation, the committee has recommended strict action. In this action, a fine of Rs 1.2 lakh has been collected from the senior students. A fine of Rs 40,000 each has been imposed on the junior students. Apart from this, they have also been deprived of hostel facilities. It is said that seven students have been punished in this case. IIT Mumbai has refused to comment on the action taken against the students.
