In the Muslim-majority Central Asian country, the Parliament has decided to ban Islamic dress like hijab and burqa. A law in this regard has been approved in the Parliament. So now this law is going to be implemented. Therefore, there is a possibility of controversy. The country has separated from the Soviet Union. The country shares its border with Taliban-ruled Afghanistan. In such a situation, the ban on hijab and burqa is likely to increase controversy because it is mandatory in neighboring country Afghanistan. While there is a demand to ban burqa in India, this Muslim country has also implemented it.

Ban on wearing foreign clothes

The Majlisi Milli, the upper house of Tajikistan’s parliament, passed the bill on June 19, which provides for a ban on foreign clothing for children during Eid-ul-Fitr and Eid-ul-Azha. The lower house of parliament, Majlisi Namoyandagon, had already passed the bill on May 8, which recommended a ban on wearing foreign clothing such as burqa and hijab.

During the debate on the bill, the Tajikistan Parliament said that the veil covering women’s faces is not part of Tajik tradition or culture. Therefore, these foreign garments have been banned. The 18th session of Parliament, chaired by President Rustam Emomali, also changed laws related to cultural practices, the role of teachers in raising children and the duties of parents.

Penalty for violation

The law also provides for heavy fines for anyone violating these new rules. According to the provisions of the bill, individuals can be fined up to 7,920 somoni, while companies can be fined up to 39,500 somoni. Officials were fined 54,000 and religious leaders 57,600 somoni.

What else is prohibited?

According to media reports, wedding and funeral feasts have also been banned in Tajikistan. Apart from this, beards have also been banned. That is, men must shave. If anyone is found shaving, strict action will be taken against him. The sale of Islamic books is also banned here.
