In this Lok Sabha election, Congress has got better success than in the last 10 years. Elections have been held on about 100 seats of Congress. Therefore, there is enthusiasm in Congress. Today the Lok Sabha Speaker was elected. Along with this, Rahul Gandhi, MP from Rae Bareli, has been made the Leader of the Opposition. Before Rahul Gandhi, his mother and Rajya Sabha MP Sonia Gandhi and father and former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi have also served as the Leader of the Opposition. The post of Leader of the Opposition has come to the opposition after ten years. In the 2014 and 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Congress did not get even ten percent of the total seats. Therefore, the post of Leader of the Opposition did not exist. But now after becoming the Leader of the Opposition, Rahul Gandhi will have some powers.

opinions will be considered

Becoming the leader of the opposition will give Rahul Gandhi some power. Rahul Gandhi’s opinion will be taken on the appointment of the Director of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Chief Election Commissioner, Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission, Chief Vigilance Commissioner, etc.

Rahul Gandhi being the leader of the opposition will make his opinion important in important appointments in the country. Rahul Gandhi will now be the face of the opposition. He can take a stand to support or oppose the appointments made by the government. For example, while selecting the Chief Election Commissioner, the committee will include Prime Minister Modi, a Union Minister and opposition leader Rahul Gandhi.

This is the first time that Rahul Gandhi has accepted such a big responsibility in Parliament. Rahul Gandhi has been continuously elected as an MP since 2004, but he could not even become a Union Minister in the UPA-1 government from 2004 to 2009 and in the UPA-2 government from 2009 to 2014. Now Rahul Gandhi will be the third person from the Gandhi family to sit on the chair of the Leader of the Opposition. Earlier, former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi had taken charge of the Leader of the Opposition during the VP Singh government in 1989-90, while Rahul Gandhi’s mother and former Congress President Sonia Gandhi had taken charge of the Leader of the Opposition. Atal Bihari Vajpayee was the Leader of the Opposition between 1999-2004. Now Rahul Gandhi has become the Leader of the Opposition in the third term of the Modi government.

Cabinet minister status

Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi will get the status of a cabinet minister. He will also have his office and staff in Parliament. As soon as he became the leader of the opposition, Rahul Gandhi was seen in a changed style. In these years, he was often seen in a white T-shirt and pants. But today he was seen wearing a kurta-pyjama in Parliament. Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday congratulated the newly elected Speaker of the House Om Birla and said that he hoped that he would fulfill his responsibility of protecting the Constitution by giving the opposition a chance to speak.

Rahul Gandhi said, ‘Mr. Speaker, this House represents the voice of the people of India and you are the custodian of that voice. Undoubtedly, the government is in power, but the opposition also represents the voice of the people of India. We hope that you will get an opportunity to raise our voice, to raise the voice of the people of India. This election has shown that people expect the opposition to protect the Constitution.’
