Aishwarya Rai said that Abhishek Bachchan proposed her like a Hollywood hero. Aishwarya and Abhishek were standing on the balcony of a hotel in New York. Abhishek then saw the opportunity and proposed to her by getting down on his knees in front of her. Ash also immediately accepted this proposal of Abhishek.

Aishwarya further said, “I will never forget the way Abhishek proposed to me. After this, immediately when we came to India, Abhishek told me that we are coming to stay at your house. I began to wonder what could have prevented this? Since I am a South Indian, I didn’t know what Roka was.

Aishwarya continued, ‘Pa (Amitabh Bachchan) called my father and told him about the rock. He was not in town at that time, so I told Abhishek not to come now, give him some time, but Abhishek said- I can’t do anything, we have left home. Then everyone came to our house, stopped me but I came to know that we are engaged.
“Everything is happening so fast”
Aishwarya had said that when I reached the sets of ‘Jodha Akbar’ the day after the engagement, I was shooting for the song ‘Khwaja Mere Khwaja’. What was going through my mind that onscreen, offscreen, marriage, engagement everything was happening fast. Then on 20 April 2007, Abhishek and Aishwarya got married.
