The country’s liquor exports will increase
The craze for ‘desi liquor’, i.e. liquor prepared on Indian soil, is soon going to spread across the world. The reason for this is that the liquor manufacturing companies in the country have made a tremendous plan regarding its export. Their plan is to take the exports of Indian liquor to a billion dollars in the next few years.
The Indian Liquor Companies (CIABC), an organisation of liquor companies, says it aims to take the country’s liquor exports to $1 billion in the next few years. Support from the central and state governments will help them achieve this goal.
Ease of doing business is very important.
According to the agency, CIABC Director General Anant S. Iyer says that it is very important to facilitate business in this sector. For this, it is necessary to facilitate business at both the central and state government levels. Working towards simplifying permits from the bottling to branding level and making online formalities for transportation of liquor and other works will help us a lot.

Anant S. Iyer says that to promote liquor exports from the country, ease of doing business, a simple tax structure and market-determined pricing are needed. Currently, the rules for this sector differ from state to state. Achieving a $1 billion domestic liquor export from India is ambitious, but not impossible.
Currently this quantity of liquor is exported from the country.
India still exports liquor in large quantities. Many foreign companies export manufactured liquor here. In the financial year 2023-24, the country’s liquor exports were $38.9 million. In such a situation, if the country wants to achieve the export target of $1 billion, the industry believes that India will have to grow by 14-15 per cent annually for that.
The industry says that to boost the country’s liquor exports, efforts such as promoting local liquor brands at Indian missions abroad and providing separate spaces for local brands at duty free shops at airports in the country can be helpful.
The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), a unit under the Ministry of Commerce, says India currently ranks 40th in the world in terms of liquor exports. From here, liquor is mainly exported to the UAE, Singapore, Netherlands, Tanzania, Angola, Kenya and Rwanda.
