When Prime Minister Narendra Modi came to watch the Ganga Aarti at Dashaswamedh Ghat in Kashi for the fifth time on Tuesday, Yogi Ramjanam blew the conch at the beginning of the Aarti. Yogi Ramjanam caught everyone’s attention with this Shankha Naad which lasted for about two and a half minutes. In all important auspicious events of Kashi, including Ganga Aarti, Yogi Ramjanam is invoked to the conch shell. For 20 years, he plays the conch shell at Ramlila in Ramnagar.

Even at the age of 68, Yogi Ram Janam, a resident of Chaubepur in Kashi, has the courage to blow the conch continuously for about 20 minutes. Yogi Ramjanam’s conch-blowing journey began 40 years ago when Ramjanam saw someone blowing conch shells at the Ramlila of the world-famous Ramnagar in Kashi. Then he mentally sought Hanumanji’s blessings and started blowing the conch. After that, continuous efforts were made to control Prana Vayu through yogic practices like Kumbhaka, Rechak and Puraka. Even today he can play the conch continuously for 20 minutes.

When called for a conch in Mauritius

In the month of March in the year 2002, Yogi Ram went to Mauritius for Janam Shankhanad. Conch shells were continuously blown for half an hour in the presence of many important people including Ramanand Sagar, Ramesh Bhai Ojha, Morari Bapu. Yogi Ram Janam Ji, who completed his graduation from BHU, holds the record of 40 minutes when he played the conch for the BBC in 1992.
