No promises were kept… Martyr Agniveer’s family’s explanation amid Rahul’s allegations

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi questioned the Agniveer Yojana in the Sena in Parliament on Monday. During his speech he mentioned the martyrdom of a firefighter from Punjab and his family. After this, the family of Shaheed Agniveer of Barnala district has come forward. The family says that we have not been given anything yet. Firefighter Sukhwinder Singh of Mehta village in Barnala was martyred in Jammu in April 2024 while on duty.

This family has not been given any help or facility from the government. Due to which the family of martyr Agniveer is angry with the government. Sukhwinder Singh’s mother has directly opposed the Agnveer scheme. Martyr Agniveer’s mother and grandmother said that Sukhwinder Singh’s father was also in the army and the family is getting his job facilities till date, but Sukhwinder Singh also died for the country, even though the government did this, he did not get any compensation. The facility was not provided.

First posting was in Jammu

Martyr Agniveer’s mother Ranjit Kaur said that her son joined the Indian Army in December 2022 through Agniveer Yojana. Martyred on 16 April 2024. He said that Sukhwinder Singh’s first posting after joining the army was in Jammu and he was martyred there. Apart from this, the cause of the son’s martyrdom has not been revealed yet. No compensation or assistance has been given by any government after the son’s martyrdom.

He said that our family is against the Agniveer Yojana, as under this scheme no facility is provided to the youths who join the army. After the martyrdom, no salute was given at the son’s funeral. On that occasion, leaders of various political parties came home and made many promises to the family, but till date none of the promises have been kept. She said her husband was in the army, which encouraged her son to join the army as well. Till today the family is getting all the facilities of the husband’s job. But even after the son’s martyrdom, no facility has been provided.
