Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman chaired the 53rd GST Council meeting. After this meeting, she informed that many services of Indian Railways have been excluded from the scope of GST. According to this, GST will no longer be applicable on platform tickets. Along with this, it has been proposed to impose 12 percent GST on solar cookers and milk cans made of steel and aluminum. Apart from this, it has also been recommended to impose 12 percent GST on cartons made of paper and paper board. She said, we have taken many decisions to increase business and give relief to taxpayers.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said that there was no discussion in the meeting about imposing 28 percent GST on the online gaming industry. This topic was not on the agenda of the meeting. In such a situation, the hope of relief for online gaming and casinos is over. Many emerging issues were discussed in the GST Council meeting. The issue of unfairly increased prices was also raised in this meeting.

The Finance Minister said, there has been a discussion on imposing 12% GST on all types of sprinklers. The GST reduction on paper carton boxes and sprinklers will greatly benefit apple producers of Himachal and Jammu and Kashmir. Apart from this, arrangements will be made to ensure Aadhaar based biometric identification across the country. This will stop incidents of claiming fake input tax credit through fake bills.

Along with this, a decision was also taken in the GST Council meeting to reduce the number of cases. Under this, the financial limit of the GST Appellate Tribunal has now been increased to Rs 20 lakh. This amount will be Rs 1 crore for the High Court and Rs 2 crore for the Supreme Court.

Tax exemption has also been given on battery operated vehicles of railways and inter rail services. The meeting was attended by the Chief Ministers of Goa and Meghalaya, Deputy Chief Ministers of Bihar, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh and Odisha, Finance Ministers of States and Union Territories (with legislatures) and senior officials of the Central and State Governments.
