National Investigation Agency
The National Security Agency (NIA) conducted raids in several parts of Punjab on Friday. These raids were conducted in Moga, Amritsar, Gurdaspur, Jalandhar in Punjab. The raid was carried out in connection with the attack by Khalistan supporters on the Indian High Commission in Ottawa, Canada. The NIA had registered a case in this matter in June last year. Amar Jot Singh, brother-in-law of independent MP Amrit Pal Singh from Khandur Sahib, Punjab, is an accused in the case.
The NIA wrote in the FIR that in March 2023, Khalistan supporters staged a protest at the Indian High Commission in Ottawa, Canada, which included raising anti-India slogans, hanging Khalistan flags on the wall of the commission and throwing hand grenades.

Relations between India and Canada were strained after the attack on the High Commission in Ottawa last year. The situation escalated to such an extent that India recalled 41 of its diplomats from Canada citing security reasons, in response to which Canada also recalled its diplomats. After some time relations between the two countries normalized.
The protests erupted after Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau tried to blame India for the killing of Khalistan militant Hardeep Singh Nijjar. After this, there was a lot of tension in the relations between the two countries. It may be mentioned that Nijjar was shot dead outside a Gurudwara in British Columbia in June. Accusing India of killing pro-Khalistan Nijjars, protests were held at various locations, including the embassies of Canada, Britain and the US.
