The digitalization of education can be done in the country. The availability of good educational books and textbooks can be increased in all villages. To do this, the government wants to create a national electronic library. Now National Book Trust (NBT) has signed an MoU with the Department of School Education and Literacy for this work. The National Electronic Library will be a digital library platform.

NBT, under the Department of Higher Education, Government of India, will prepare a framework for the National Electronic Library. On this basis it will be decided how the national electronic library will be developed.

This is how the national electronic library will be useful for the country.

In a program related to the National Electronic Library, Secretary of the Department of School Education and Literacy, Sanjay Kumar, said that the National Electronic Library is going to be a very good option to maintain the habit of reading among children. The National Electronic Library will provide people with 24/7 access to books across the country. Children will be able to read the books from anywhere and at any time. This will be very beneficial for those states where people’s access to libraries is limited.

10,000 books will be present in 100 languages

Regarding the National Electronic Library, Sanjay Kumar said that children here will have access to 10,000 books in 100 languages in the next 2-3 years. A ‘Content Enrichment Committee’ will be formed to select suitable books on this platform. Meanwhile, department deputy secretary Archana Sharma Awasthi says non-academic books will also be included in the national e-library. Around 1,000 such books in 23 languages, including English, will be available on this platform.

Talking about non-academic books, Higher Education Department Secretary Sanjay Murthy said that non-academic books also have an important place in the lives of children. These play a role in the training of its academics. Not only this, he also asked NBT to involve academic teachers in preparing good quality books.

National Book Trust director Yuvraj Malik said the National Electronic Library will function as the Encyclopedia of India or rather a national repository. This will give recognition to Indian knowledge and languages in front of the world.
