People from the protesting Muslim community say that the Mehboob-e-Subania Masjid, declared illegal on a 90-foot road in Dharavi, is 25 years old. BMC will have to take action to demolish the mosque by declaring it unauthorized. The people of the society are opposing its demolition. People from the Muslim community gather around the mosque.

An enraged mob pelted stones on BMC vehicles

When Mumbai Municipal Corporation officials arrived in Dharavi to demolish the mosque on Saturday morning, protesters pelted stones at their vehicles. People started creating an uproar. A heavy police presence accompanied the team. The police officials explained to the people and requested them to clear the traffic. Appealed the people to maintain law and order and asked them not to pelt stones. After being explained by the police, the people of the Muslim community cleared the traffic on a part of the road. At the same time, people on the other side of the road are sitting.

Congress MPs met the CM

Congress president and MP Varsha Gaekwad met Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Friday to stop the action on the mosque and appealed to stop the action. Giving information on social media platform ‘X’, he wrote that ‘Met Chief Minister Eknath Shindeji regarding BMC’s demolition notice for Mehboob-e-Subania Masjid in Dharavi and made him aware of people’s sentiments. Had a positive conversation with the Chief Minister. He said he would speak to the authorities concerned and assured that the demolition would be stopped.

In his letter to the Chief Minister, he wrote that the Mumbai Municipal Corporation has sent a notice to demolish the Mehboob-e-Subania Masjid near the Himalaya Hotel in Dharavi. This mosque has existed for many years. The Dharavi Rehabilitation Authority (DRP) should investigate the encroachment of this mosque. He made CM Shinde aware of the sentiments of the people.
