MP: Rain disaster in Shivpuri, husband and wife washed away in drain; Death of a woman

Due to continuous rains in Shivpuri district for the last 48 hours, public life has become chaotic. A husband and wife were washed away along with their bikes while crossing a drain at Budhda Tiraha in Pohri Police Station area on Wednesday night. The husband somehow saved his life, but could not save the wife. After receiving the information, the SDRF team reached on Thursday and recovered the body of the woman after two hours of hard work.

Ashok Baghel (35), a resident of Narayanpura village in Bairad police station area, was returning home with his wife Pushpa Baghel (30) after attending a gami at Sadu’s place in Gwalior, but Ashok was returning home in heavy rain and late at night. I used to go to Guricha village to stay with his relatives. Meanwhile, he got stuck in the drain along with his wife and bike while crossing an overflowing drain at Budhda Tiraha.

The husband informed the police about the incident

Ashoka somehow swam out of the water after being swept away in the canal. After coming out, Ashok tried to save his wife but was unable to save her as it was late at night. A fed up Ashok reported the incident to the police and his relatives. As soon as the incident was reported, the police reached the spot and tried hard to find the woman, but due to late night, there was no trace of her.

SDRF found the body of the woman

After receiving the information about the incident, Tahsildar Drigpal Singh of Baird reached the spot at night. As soon as morning broke, the SDRF reached the spot to rescue the woman. After a two-hour rescue operation by the SDRF, the body of the woman was found stuck in the bushes. Following heavy rain here, the administration has opened four gates of Mahuar Dam. SS Gupta, SDO of Mahuar Project, said four gates were opened at 2 pm on Wednesday.

The administration has declared an alert

160 cumex of water is being released from here. The water released from the Mahuar Dam is rapidly moving towards Dabra through the Mahuar River. The Mahuar River further joins the Sindh River. The administration has also issued an alert due to the sudden release of water. Due to which there has been rise in Mahuar river. One such recent case has come to light from Karaira Bridge, where some people saw a youth floating in the Mahuar River. The young man floating in the river knew how to swim, but could not reach the shore because of the strong current. People showed readiness and rescued the young man safely.
