Two MPs from West Bengal are going to get a place in Narendra Modi’s 3.0 cabinet, though the names of the ministers are yet to be officially announced. Before Narendra Modi took oath as Prime Minister for the third time on Sunday evening, he invited some MPs to his residence for tea. There was speculation that those who were invited for tea would also get a place in the cabinet. The two representatives from Bengal who were invited for tea with Narendra Modi include Sukant Majumdar and Shantanu Thakur.

According to BJP sources, these two are becoming ministers. However, even this time, Bengal is not getting a full-fledged minister. Sources say that both may get the status of Minister of State. Shantanu Thakur was Minister of State in the Ministry of Shipping in the previous cabinet. What responsibility has been assigned to him this time? People’s eyes are fixed on this.

Sukant Majumdar is the state BJP president.

Sukant Majumdar is currently the Bengal State BJP President. He is MP from Balurghat. This time also he has again reached the Lok Sabha after winning the election from this seat. Party leaders say that Sukant Majumdar is being given a ministry as a reward. Shantanu was made Minister of State for Shipping in 2021. He is the Matua Sanghadhipati in Bengal. The Matua vote is an important part of the BJP’s vote bank in Bengal. Due to which Shantanu Thakur is again getting a place in the Modi cabinet. Many in the state BJP say that Shantanu Thakur is an MP from Bangaon in South Bengal, while Sukanth Majumdar hails from North Bengal. In such a situation, one MP each from North Bengal and South Bengal is being made a minister.

Shantanu Thakur became a minister for the first time in 2021

When Modi first became Prime Minister in 2014, two people from Bengal were made Ministers of State. Babul Supriyo and Surendra Singh Ahluwalia got a place in his cabinet. The next time i.e. in 2019, Modi made Debashree Chaudhary as a minister along with Babul Supriyo. Both were removed from the cabinet in July 2021. Four people from Bengal got ministry. Shantanu Thakur of Bongaon was appointed Minister of State for Shipping at that time. Apart from this, Nishith Pramanik, John Barla and Subhash Sarkar have also got a place in the cabinet. But each was made a minister of state. So far no one from Bengal has been appointed as a full minister in any of Modi’s cabinet.

4 ministers got place in Modi cabinet

Among the four ministers, John Barla has not been given a ticket in the Lok Sabha elections this time. Nishith Pramanik and Subhash Sarkar have lost. Among the ministers of Bengal, only Shantanu Thakur was victorious. He is being kept in the cabinet. New faces are also being brought in.

There were speculations that Tamluk winning candidate from Bengal and former High Court judge Abhijit Gangopadhyay, Alipurduar winning candidate Manoj Tigga might also get a place in the cabinet this time, but now the names of Sukant Majumdar and Shantanu Thakur are coming forward.
