Farmers’ agitation over increasing milk prices

Farmers have taken an aggressive stance regarding the increase in the price of milk. Farmers protested at various places in the state. As the monsoon session begins and the Finance Minister will present the budget in the legislature today, farmers in the state have drawn the attention of the government to their demands. Farmers of Ahmednagar district have become aggressive as farmer representatives were not called in the meeting. Farmers have also taken to the streets in other parts of the state. Big milk producing companies have already increased the price of milk. Now there is a demand to increase the price of milk in the open market.

Road blocked in Ahmednagar district

Milk producing farmers have become aggressive over the price of milk. A protest was held today on the Kolhar Ghoti highway in Ahmednagar district. A large number of farmers participated in the protest held in Chikhli village of Sangamner taluka. During this, the farmers raised slogans and demanded that the price of milk should be at least Rs 40.

Milk is being sold for 22 to 25 rupees whereas the expectation was 40 rupees. Farmers allege that this is government loot. If their demands are not met, milk producing farmers have warned that they will launch a fierce protest by throwing cow dung in all government offices including the ministry.

Dairy Development Minister Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil will address the farmers’ questions tomorrow… However, the farmers have taken the stand that this meeting is not acceptable to us because without calling the representatives of the farmers, only those who are called farmer leaders have been invited.

Aggressive farmers in Sangli

Farmers are disappointed and worried as the land has not been cleared yet despite the promise of clearing the bountiful lands of Maharashtra, there has been no implementation despite discussions in the assembly. Besides, the All India Kisan Sabha has alleged that farmers are being cheated by milk unions and private milk unions. They are buying cow milk from farmers at Rs 26 to Rs 27 and selling it to consumers at Rs 58 to Rs 60. Kisan Sabha has warned that farmers are being paid excessive prices by protesting in different ways from today till the price of cow milk is not reduced to Rs 40.

The impact of milk powder imports

3.5 lakh tonnes of milk powder is lying in various warehouses of the country. However, Dr Kisan Sabha accused the central government of importing 15,000 tonnes of milk powder and taking a decision that harms the lives of farmers. By Ajit Navale. Due to this decision of the Center, the price of milk powder which was Rs 35 has come down to Rs 24. The Sangharsh Samiti has also warned the state government not to harass milk producers further.
