Bureaucracy’s turn in Valley elections

As the bugle of Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections is sounded, former bureaucrats are busy trying to enter the political fray. Due to their experience and influence in the state, many bureaucrats have left their jobs midway to try their luck on the electoral pitch. Apart from this, many people have made up their mind to join politics after retirement. This includes retired DGP, DIG, SSP and SP level officers. In such a situation, the question is that the former bureaucrat is trying to contest from which seat from which party?

Among the names of police officers being discussed to try their luck in the polls from Jammu and Kashmir is former DGP Shesh Paul Vaid, also known as SP Vaid. Apart from this, DIG Israr Khan, VRS taker SSP Mohan Kaith and SSP Mohan Lal Bhagat are said to be contesting the elections. SP’s KD Bhagat can also contest assembly elections. All these ex-bureaucrats have also started playing political cards and have chosen seats for themselves.

Who will contest from which seat?

Most of the retired police officers who are rumored to contest the assembly elections are trying to become candidates from the BJP. Full thrust has also been started for this. If sources are to be believed, BJP is also preparing to field him in the election field. There is more emphasis on reserved seats especially for Dalit community. Among them, he has also been placed in the panel of potential candidates contesting from the BJP. It is believed that in the next few days, the names of the officers who are contesting the elections will also come out.

Former DGP SP Vaid is planning to contest from his home district. Vaid is a resident of Mahanpur city in Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir. He hails from a Dogra family. That is why SP Vaid wants to contest from any seat in Kathua or Jammu division. He has been praising the Modi government’s policies for a long time. Apart from this, there were cases of attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh on social media. He said that the critics of CAA should pay attention to the ongoing crisis in Bangladesh. Apart from this, he is continuously active in his Kathua area. Due to this, it is believed that he can contest the election on BJP ticket.

Israr Khan will contest from Kashmir

Former DIG of Jammu and Kashmir Israr Khan is also working with full strength to contest the elections. Israr Khan is known as Lali Khan. In the year 2014, he left the job of a police officer and joined the National Conference. Lali Khan, who belongs to a prominent family of Udhampur, is trying to contest from the Kashmir region seat. He is counted among the leaders close to Omar Abdullah. In such a situation, it is certain that the National Conference can field him in the election this time.

Will Mohan Kaith resign from the central seat?

The Home Department of Jammu and Kashmir has approved the voluntary retirement of IPS Mohan Lal Kaith with effect from August 31, 2024 under Section 230 of the Jammu and Kashmir Civil Services Regulation Volume-I. Mohan Kaith may contest from Central assembly constituency of Jammu district. The middle seat is reserved for scheduled castes. It is believed that he is trying to contest the election on a BJP ticket. Hence he has taken BRS from the job. His name is included among the possible candidates of BJP.

Mohan Bhagat will also contest the election?

There is talk that SSP Mohan Lal Bhagat will contest the assembly elections. He has also applied for early retirement, but has not been approved yet. Speculations are rife that Mohan Lal Bhagat will contest from Akhnoor reserved seat. The seat is reserved for the Dalit community and there is talk that they will contest on a BJP ticket. No order has yet been issued on Mohan Lal Bhagat’s VRS application. In such a situation, he will enter the election field only if he gets approval. Otherwise, the hope of contesting elections will be dashed.

Apart from this SP KD Bhagat is also rumored to contest the election, but he has neither applied for retirement nor is his political activities visible. However, there is talk that he may contest from Akhnoor.
