The Mamata Banerjee government has been facing constant criticism over the Kolkata doctor rape and murder case. Questions are being raised on the state police. There have also been accusations of brutality against the youth who took to the streets to demand justice for the female doctor. The opposition is accusing the state government of shielding the accused. Meanwhile, CM Mamata Banerjee is going to introduce a strict law to punish the guilty in rape cases.
The West Bengal government has sought Cabinet approval to introduce a separate death penalty bill for rape convicts. The Bill will be passed in a two-day special session of the Legislative Assembly. After this it will be sent to the Governor for approval. In a public meeting on Wednesday, CM Banerjee said that a two-day special assembly session will be brought.
It aims to speed up the case and adjudication process.
In which the state government will pass an anti-rape law to give capital punishment to rapists. Its main purpose is to speed up the process of cases and adjudication. His government wants to execute the rapists within 10 days. The draft bill has been approved in the cabinet meeting. It will be passed in a special session on September 2 and 3.
What’s in the draft?
- Fast track trial procedure in cases of rape or rape and murder.
- Medical examination of the victim and the accused should be done as soon as possible.
- If he is found guilty, he will be sentenced to death immediately.
- The Center has also changed the fast track process in hearing rape and murder cases.
According to Kolkata High Court lawyer Arunav Ghosh, there is no provision for the state government to enact a law on death penalty. This can only be done by Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. It can again be overturned by the Supreme Court. Mamata Banerjee is doing this only for politics. There is no validity and justice in this bill. It has no future except for political gain.
…Then they will sit on dharna in front of the Raj Bhavan
If the BJP supports this bill, Mamata will prove her demand right. If she protests, Mamata will say that the BJP is not ready to hang or punish rapists. If the Governor does not sign the bill, Mamata will sit on dharna in front of the Raj Bhavan.
They are doing drama for political gain
Regarding this, BJP state president Sukanth Majumdar told TV9 Bharatvarsh that there is no provision for the state government to introduce such a law on death penalty state by state. Parliament has the right to make laws for the country. Mamata Banerjee is doing this drama only for political gain.
