Major accident in Purnia
A major accident has taken place in Purnia, Bihar. Around a dozen people drowned when a boat capsized in the strong current of the river here. Apart from this, many vehicles are also said to be missing. The boat mishap took place in Saura River at Ranka Ghat in Bela Rikbaganj Panchayat of Nagar Block in Purnia District. About a dozen people drowned in the river in this accident.
People who were drowning in the strong current of the river were rescued by local people. Several motorcycles and bicycles aboard the boat have also sunk in the river and divers are searching for them. According to the information, the people who drowned in the accident used to come to Purnia frequently in search of work and for daily work.
The boat had more people than it could hold
These people used to come to Purnia every day by boat in search of work and for daily work. According to reports, the boat had more people than its capacity, hence this major accident. Firstly, due to more people and many vehicles in the boat, the boat lost its balance which caused the boat to sink. In the middle of the river, all fell into the river and started drowning. Seeing people drowning like this, people standing on the banks of the river panicked.
The bridge has not been constructed since independence
Seeing the incident, local divers jumped into the river and pulled everyone out. Two women became unconscious due to inhalation of excess water and are being treated locally. According to available information, not a single bridge has ever been constructed here since independence. Boats are the only means of transport across the bridge at low tide and at high tide it is only 5 km from the district headquarters.
