Italy has committed the shocking act of vandalising the statue of the Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi and making graffiti on it. Along with Gandhi and Modi, the names of Khalistan leader Harideep Singh Nijjar were also found engraved on the statue. The statue was to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the G-7 summit. Meanwhile, India has strongly protested on this matter and has complained to the Italian authorities and demanded action.

Relations between India and Canada have become tense after the killing of Khalistanist Harideep Singh Nijjar by Canada. Doubts were raised on the Indian security system in this case. India had clarified that it had no involvement in this. However, relations between the two countries had deteriorated over this issue. Apart from this, there has been a stir after the case of breaking the statue of Mahatma Gandhi, who was on a tour to Italy, came to light.

Khalistani terrorists have painted graffiti below the statue. A reference to Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar is also written on the statue’s quadrangular shape. Foreign Secretary Vinay Mohan Kwatra told the media that India has lodged an objection with the concerned Italian authorities in this matter and requested them to take action.
