Maharashtra BJP leader and former MLA Gopaldas Agarwal has announced to quit the party on Sunday. He said that he is leaving the party and will join the Congress on September 13. Gopaldas Agarwal said that he joined BJP from Congress to contest assembly elections in 2019. But he had to face defeat because of the party workers.

Former MLA from Gondia, Maharashtra Agarwal announced this in a press conference. He said that I am leaving BJP with a heavy heart. Because BJP policies are not acceptable to them and party workers have not worked for them with full commitment. Gopaldas Agarwal said that he has submitted his resignation to BJP National President JP Nadda.

‘Independent candidate faced defeat’

Gopaldas Agarwal said, ‘I have resigned from the primary membership of the party by sending a letter to BJP president JP Nadda. I joined BJP to contest assembly elections in 2019. But due to lack of support from party workers, I had to face defeat at the hands of independent candidate Vinod Agarwal.

Talking to the media, he said, ‘I am forced to leave (the party) with a heavy heart. I have also spoken to Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and state party president Chandrasekhar Bawankule about my decision. I will return to the Congress on September 13 in the presence of Maharashtra Congress affairs in-charge Ramesh Chennithala.

He was defeated in the 2019 election by a margin of 27169 votes.

Agarwal claimed that senior leaders like Chennithala and others have said that the Congress will fight the next assembly elections from Gondia under the Maha Vikas Aghadi. But he is not joining his old party for the ticket. Gopaldas Agarwal has reached the Legislative Assembly three times in a row on a Congress ticket.

He won from Gondia assembly seat on Congress ticket in 2004, 2009 and 2014. At the same time, he joined the BJP ahead of the 2019 assembly elections. In this election BJP once again gave him ticket from Gondia seat but he could not win for the fourth time. Gopaldas Aggarwal lost to Vinod Aggarwal of Congress in the 2019 election by a total margin of 27169 votes.
