Politics has heated up in Maharashtra ahead of the announcement of assembly election dates. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on a visit to Maharashtra today, Friday. During this time, the PM is going to lay the foundation stone of the ambitious Wadhawan Port project worth around Rs 76,000 crore in Palghar. But even before his arrival, protests against the Prime Minister have started in Mumbai and Palghar. His visit comes days after a giant statue of Shivaji fell in Sindhudurg, which the Congress is protesting in Mumbai.
Congress is strongly opposing PM Modi’s visit to Mumbai. Congress leader Varsha Gaikwad announced to protest at the venue of PM Modi’s program in BKC. In such a situation, a tight police presence has been arranged outside his house. A large police force has also been deployed.
Congress is making Shivaji an issue
The Congress is constantly making an issue of the demolition of the statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in Sindhudurg district of the state. Posters of PM Modi’s apology have also been put up in many areas including Mumbai. An apology is being sought from PM Modi for breaking Shivaji’s statue.
Congress leader Naseem Khan has also been placed under house arrest at his home in Sakinaka Kurla. He also announced to protest against the fall of the statue.
Protest by tying black balloons in Palghar
Before the arrival of PM Modi, demonstrations are taking place not only in Mumbai but also in Palghar. However, the cause of protest here is the port being built here. PM Modi is going to lay the foundation stone of the port project at Wadhavan in Dahanu of Palghar district. However, local fishermen are opposing the project ahead of PM Modi’s visit. He expressed his protest by tying black balloons on his boat.
There has been a local level protest against this port for a long time now. Fishermen allege that this stretch of the Arabian Sea is a golden zone for fishing and it will affect their business. That is why they are against the port, but after getting approval from the central government, today PM Modi will go to Dahanu town in Palghar and lay the foundation stone of this future biggest port of the country.
