Thieves dig up foundation of Rang Mahal Temple (Symbolic Image)
Buried treasure hunters have dug a deep pit in the Rang Mahal temple of Ajaypal Fort in Madhya Pradesh’s Panna district, shaking its foundations. Due to which the existence of the temple is in danger. The seeker of riches has damaged the foundation stones by digging them up. Many of the stones used in the foundation have also been quarried. It is being said that this temple of historical importance is under protection under Archeology department i.e. ASI, but now its existence is threatened.
This is not the first case of this kind. Excavation incidents around the Rang Mahal have also come to light before this. While the damage was minor, most cases were buried under the rug. This time the very existence of the temple is in danger. The foundation stones of the temple have been dug up and removed. The Rangmahal temple of the Gupta period has an important place in the historical world. The existence of these temples, which preserve the sculptures carved on the family of Lord Shankar and demon Keechak, is now under threat.
Upheaval in the administration
After the matter came to light, there has been a commotion in the administration. Additional Superintendent of Police Aarti Singh said that an FIR has been registered against unknown accused at Ajaygarh Police Station. The investigation is ongoing. At first glance it appears to be digging in search of buried treasure. The situation will be clear after investigation.
Rush to Delhi
There has been an uproar in the archaeological department from Panna to Delhi regarding this incident. Officials are now worried about the threat to the temple’s existence. It is believed that an ASI team will soon reach the site and inspect the damage caused to the foundation of the temple due to excavation.
