Situation like a stampede in search of work.

The rise in unemployment in the country is becoming a cause for concern. The International Labour Organisation (ILO) has already warned about it, but now it is also visible on the ground. Recently, a Tata Group company posted 2,216 job vacancies and 25,000 people applied for them.

This job was posted by ‘Air India Airport Services’, a subsidiary of Tata Group’s aviation company Air India. This job was for maintenance work only. For this, a salary of only Rs 25,000 was offered and a walk-in interview was held on July 16 in Mumbai.

The situation became like a stampede.

The company has a recruitment office in Kalina, Mumbai, where the process of filling up all this job vacancy was going on. Due to the arrival of so many people, the situation became such that a stampede-like situation was created there. According to the PTI report, people who wanted to get jobs had gathered at gate number 5 of the Sahar Cargo Complex. Most of the applicants were first-year students and most of them had studied only up to class 12.

Seeing such a large crowd, management had to ask everyone to drop off their resumes and come back. They were assured that each resume would be reviewed and then they would be notified for a job interview. According to the report, after reviewing the resumes, management called about 200 people for an interview.

This work had to be done at the airport.

The job offer posted by Air India. There were mainly vacancies for airport loaders. While some positions were also related to repair and maintenance. In this regard, the physical ability for jobs like loader or maintenance staff will also be tested, because they have to perform other important jobs like lifting heavy goods at the airport. In reality, the salary for these jobs was only Rs 20-25,000. Still, with overtime, this can go up to a maximum of Rs 30,000 per month.
