The CBI is probing the rape and murder of a woman doctor last month at the RG Kar Medical College-Hospital in Kolkata, West Bengal. Trinamool Congress MLA Nirmal Ghosh is being interrogated by the central agency in this connection. Ghosh appeared before the CBI on Monday. An official said that TMC Panihati MLA Nirmal Ghosh reached the CBI office at 10.30 am.
The official also said that the CBI is also interrogating doctor-professor Apoorba Biswas of the hospital’s forensic department in connection with the same case. A CBI official, giving the information, said that the investigating agency called him to RG Kar Hospital for questioning about the incident.
TMC leader Nirmal Ghosh under suspicion
He said that since TMC leader Nirmal Ghosh was seen in several other places that day, including the hospital and crematorium, the investigating agency suspects that Ghosh played an important role in getting the dead doctor cremated as soon as possible. The official also said that the agency has received call details which reveal that there was a conversation on August 9 between Sandeep Ghosh, the arrested former principal of RG Kar Hospital, and Nirmal Ghosh. In such a situation, the investigating agency wants to know what was the conversation between the two.

Earlier, the CBI had also questioned Birupaksha Biswas, who is said to be close to the former principal of RG Car College, Sandeep Ghosh. Biswas was accused of threatening junior doctors of various hospitals. So far, CBI has arrested three people including former principal Sandeep Ghosh in this case.

In fact, on August 9, a junior woman doctor was raped, then brutally murdered, at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College-Hospital. The body of the deceased was found lying half naked in the seminar hall. Mobile phones and laptops were recovered from the spot.

Aggrieved by this heinous incident, the doctors went on strike, due to which the people faced great distress. Demonstrations were held across the country against this incident. Currently, CBI is investigating this case.
