Riot at midnight at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata

On Wednesday midnight, there was a huge uproar at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. During the protest, an unruly mob suddenly barged in and created ruckus in the hospital. The emergency ward was also targeted. Doctors and staff were beaten up. There was stone pelting between the police and the protesters. The police resorted to lathicharge and fired tear gas shells to control the unruly crowd. In such a situation, let us know what was the chaos in this Kolkata hospital at midnight?

What happened at RG Car Hospital at midnight?

First let us tell you why RG car created a ruckus in the hospital in the middle of the night? In fact, many cities in Bengal held late-night protests demanding justice for the victim of the Kolkata doctor rape-murder case. A similar demonstration was also held at RG Car Hospital in Kolkata. Meanwhile, a huge uproar started in the hospital. The unruly crowd broke the barricade and entered the hospital. From the emergency ward to many parts of the hospital, there was heavy vandalism.

Doctors present there were also beaten. The women hid in a room of the girls’ hostel to escape the crowd. There was heavy stone pelting between the police and the demonstrators. Police vehicles were also vandalized. Police lathi-charged and fired tear gas shells to control the unruly protesters. Around 50 policemen were injured in this violence.

The uproar escalated to such an extent that the Kolkata Police Commissioner had to reach the hospital in the middle of the night. The Kolkata Police Commissioner also reached the hospital around 2 am to take stock of the deteriorating situation. After this somehow the matter calmed down.

The CBI came out of the hospital after 6 hours of investigation

The CBI is investigating the Kolkata doctor rape-murder case. After the Kolkata High Court’s order, the investigation was handed over from the Kolkata Police to the CBI. The CBI started its investigation after taking all the documents from the Kolkata Police. The CBI has formed three teams to investigate the entire matter. One of these teams reached the hospital by RG at 3.40 pm and left at 9.45 pm. The CBI team stayed at the hospital for about six hours. During this period, the CBI forensic team collected a lot of evidence. It is said that a few hours after the CBI team came out of the hospital, there was a ruckus in the hospital.

‘Don’t spread rumours- Kolkata Police Commissioner’

Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Kumar Goyal said please do not spread rumours. We are investigating everything. We are continuously questioning everyone present there. The Additional Commissioner of Police was here on the first night and he personally questioned everyone. Just spreading rumors and instilling distrust among the citizens will do nothing. I think the city has suffered, not Vineet Goyal. The CBI is investigating the case. Everything that has happened here is because of wrong media coverage.

‘A lot of media pressure…breaking bones is wrong’

We have tried to appease the family but rumors are being spread. I am very angry about this. We never said only one person is accused, we said we are waiting for evidence and it takes time. I cannot arrest a young PG student just based on rumours. This is against my conscience. There is a lot of media pressure. What we have done is right. Now CBI is investigating it. We will fully support this. Broken bones are a lie. There is no truth in this.
