Missing Ladies director Kiran Rao
Lapta Ladies, a film under the banner of Aamir Khan’s production house, will be India’s official entry at the Oscars 2025. The Film Federation of India has selected Missing Ladies from a list of 29 films. Directed by Kiran Rao, the film released in theaters on March 2 this year. Although the film didn’t earn a bumper, it got a lot of appreciation from all. Kiran Rao is very happy with the country’s decision to send the film to the Oscars. After the news broke, Kiran Rao issued a statement saying that she was feeling honoured.
Kiran Rao said, “I am extremely honored and delighted that Missing Ladies has been selected as India’s official entry for the Academy Awards. This is a testament to the hard work of our entire team. It is only because of the hard work and passion of the team that this story came alive. Cinema has always been a powerful medium for connecting hearts, crossing boundaries and starting important conversations. I hope this film will be liked by people all over the world like India.
The selection committee was thanked
Kiran Rao has also thanked the selection committee for the official Oscar entry. She said, “I sincerely thank the selection committee and all those who believed in this film. It is a great honor to be selected among many great Indian films this year, which were equal contenders for the honor. Along with this, Kiran Rao also thanked Aamir Khan Productions and Jio Studios for supporting his vision.
Kiran Rao also thanked the entire cast and crew of the film. He thanked the audience and said that their love and support means everything to us. He said that it is the trust of the audience that inspires him as a filmmaker to push creative boundaries.

Going to the Oscars as the country’s official entry for Missing Women was no easy task. This time the jury of the Film Federation of India had a list of 29 films, from which they had to choose one film. 29 films were multi-language films including Hindi. Hindi films like Ranbir Kapoor starrer Animal, Randeep Hooda starrer Swatanriya Veer Savarkar, Yami Gautam starrer Article 370 were in the race.
Apart from this, Malayalam National Award winning film ‘Attam’, Cannes Award winning ‘All We Imagine as Light’, bumper grosser Prabhas, Deepika Padukone, Kamal Haasan and Amitabh Bachchan starrer Telugu film Kalki 2898 AD, Vijay Sethupathi’s Tamil film Sa Maharaja and Teja Maharaja. . The Telugu starrer Hanu-Maan was also in the race. However, the story of the missing women overshadowed them all.
