Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal is lodged in Tihar Jail in alleged liquor scam case. ED took him into custody on March 21 after summoning him nine times in the money laundering case. According to Tihar Jail sources, Arvind Kejriwal is being prohibited from writing letters. According to sources, Arvind Kejriwal was trying to send a letter to the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi on August 6, after which he was denied.
According to prison rules, letters can be written to loved ones outside only on personal matters. However, parts of the letter Kejriwal was trying to write to the LG were also leaked to the media. The jail administration told Kejriwal that he was misusing the facilities in the jail. The Superintendent of Jail No. 2 warned Kejriwal not to do so again or his facilities may be reduced.
Case in Supreme Court
Arvind Kejriwal has moved the Supreme Court seeking his arrest and regular bail in the CBI case related to the alleged scam in Delhi’s excise policy. He has challenged the arrest and remand by the CBI in the Supreme Court. Also, he has challenged the decision of the Delhi High Court. He has sought an early hearing in the court regarding his bail, on which Chief Justice DY Chandrachud has asked CM Kejriwal’s lawyer to email him.
Manish Sisodia declared
Not only CM Kejriwal but before him former Deputy CM Manish Sisodia and Sanjay Singh were also arrested in excise policy case. However, the Supreme Court granted bail to former Delhi Deputy CM Manish Sisodia on August 9, after which Sisodia was released after 17 months. Sanjay Singh was also in jail in the same case, though he has been granted bail. CM Kejriwal was also released from jail for a few days during the Lok Sabha elections, and went back to jail before the election results.
