Khajwapura and Newri villages of Manzanpur tehsil of Kaushambi district are under threat due to wild animal attacks. Villagers mistook a wild animal for a wolf and killed it in the dark of night. After a wolf attack, villagers stand guard at night with sticks for the safety of their families and livestock. Villagers say wolves have been seen in packs of 10-12 around the village. A wolf attacked and captured a child. The child’s mother and surrounding people saved the child’s life. There is fear among the people of the village due to wolf attack.
Villagers in Newari village of Manzanpur tehsil are in panic due to attack by wild animals. A villager killed an animal. When a herd of wild animals came in the morning, the villagers surrounded them and chased the animal and beat it with sticks. The villagers kept beating the animal until it died. After receiving information about this, the forest department team reached the village and sent the body of the dead animal for post-mortem. However, even the forest department officials are yet to say whether the animal is a wolf or any other wild animal. There is still fear in people’s hearts about wolves.
The wolf attacked the child and captured him.
Dhurpati, the grandmother of the injured child, said that we came to the field at 4 o’clock. The boy got down from the lap and started playing and then many animals came. An animal pounced on the child, grabbed him from behind and started running away. Out of fear we started shouting which made people come running. With great difficulty the child was rescued from the animal’s jaws. It was the corner of an eye, its eyes were white.
Killed a wild animal mistaking it for a wolf
After several people were injured in a wild animal or wolf attack, the villagers even beat up a ferocious animal. After which the forest department came into action. All the administrative staff including DFO reached the affected areas to free the villagers from the terror and fear of wolves. DFO told villagers how to protect themselves from wolf and wild animal attacks.
Villagers were advised not to go out at night and not to go near the bushes. Apart from this, animal paw prints were also distributed among the villagers. He told him that by looking at this mark you will be able to identify which animal it is. However, despite all the efforts of the administration, villagers still fear wolves. The villagers go to the farm with weapons in their hands.
While DM Kaushambi Madhusudan Hulagi said that the forest department is conducting a search operation to catch the animal. Wild animals are being caught with traps. People will soon get relief from this problem.
