The police are badly enmeshed in the encounter case of Vijay Kumar Soni, accused of robbing a bullion businessman in Uttar Pradesh’s Kaushambi district. The court has ordered to register a case against 12 policemen including SOG in-charge, police station in-charge Charwa. In fact, Anju Devi, Vijay’s mother, filed a petition in the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Prayagraj, alleging that on 10 September 2023 Charwa police station in-charge Vinod Kumar Singh, SOG in-charge Siddharth Singh arrived with a police team. In two vehicles and arrested my son.
Anju Devi, mother of the deceased Vijay Kumar Soni, a resident of Rewa in Madhya Pradesh, has also alleged in her petition that Vijay was shot in the shoulder on September 12 by showing fake recovery in a robbery that took place two days earlier. For treatment, he was admitted to Swarup Rani Hospital Prayagraj, where Vijay died on 21 September. Accepting the petition filed by the mother of deceased Vijay, the court ordered the station in-charge to register a case against all the 12 policemen and conduct an investigation.

Anoop Kumar Soni, a resident of Samaspur village in Charwa police station area, said in his complaint to the police that he is a bullion businessman. On 8 September 2023, he went to Ramdayalpur to deliver the jewels of the order. On his way back, near Tika Ka Purva (Cashew) village, three miscreants on Apache bikes pointed a gun at his temple and demanded Rs. 11,000, 300 grams of silver, 10 grams of gold jewelery and a mobile phone bag were looted. He was also beaten up by miscreants.
After registering the case, the then Inspector Vinod Kumar Singh started investigating the case. SP Brijesh Kumar Srivastav also deputed SOG for investigation. The police team identified the number of the miscreants along with their vehicle from the CCTV cameras installed at Babura Tiraha, Beruwa, Samada Intersection and Mahevaghat Bridge. Surveillance was also resorted to.
Vijay died during treatment
On September 12, 2023, the SGOG team and then Charwa Inspector Vinod Kumar Singh in a joint operation arrested Vijay Soni, son of Narayan Soni, after he was shot dead in an encounter. Accused Vijay was shot on the shoulder. After being shot, his condition worsened. He was immediately taken to SRN Hospital Prayagraj. He died on 21st September after 9 days while undergoing treatment here.
Vijay’s family complained of a fake encounter.
Ever since Vijay Kumar Soni’s arrest, his family members have been complaining about his fake encounter, but the hearing was not taking place. Vijay’s family approached the court. In this case, Chief Judicial Magistrate Prayagraj Shashi Kumar registered a case of kidnapping and murder against SOG in-charge Siddharth Singh, then Inspector Charwa Vinod Kumar Singh and 12 other policemen and ordered a probe.
