In a government school in Bihar’s Katihar district, students were given deworming medicine. More than two dozen students fainted after being administered the drug. Panic spread among the teachers as the students fainted. As soon as the information was received, the parents of the students reached the school. The parents reached the school and created a ruckus. The parents alleged that the children became unconscious after being given medicines and mid-day meal. Parents said that children are not given good food in mid-day meal.
Health Department along with government and non-government schools of Katihar district administered medicines to children in Anganwadi Centers on the occasion of National Deworming Day. Albendazole was administered to the children. At the same time, around two dozen children fainted after being administered Albendazole at the Upgraded Middle School Bisharia in Koda Block. The parents reached the school and created a ruckus.
The parents raised an uproar
Outraged parents alleged that the children were rendered unconscious after being fed school lunch and albendazole tablets. Seeing the deteriorating condition of the children, school principal Manish Saurabh informed the health department official. As soon as the news was received, the health department team came into action and the children were immediately shifted to the hospital for better treatment.
According to the information received, the children are undergoing treatment at the hospital. In this matter, school principal Manish Saurav said that on the instructions of the health department, about 450 children were given Albendazole medicine, after which about two dozen children started fainting. He said that this information was given to the health department team.
Why did the doctor say that his health deteriorated?
Dr. Amit Arya said that taking Albendazole medicine does not cause any side effects. However, children who took albendazole tablets on an empty stomach became worse and many children panicked. However, all children are out of danger. DSP Dharmendra Kumar reached the spot and inquired about the health of the unconscious children and said that all the children were fine, there was nothing to fear.
On getting the information that the condition of the children was deteriorating, MP Rajesh Ranjan alias Pappu Yadav reached there and explained and calmed them after getting complete information about the matter.
