The junior doctors of the state have been on strike for the last 20 days over the rape-murder case of a trainee doctor in Kolkata. Because of this, Mamata Banerjee also appealed to return to work, but Junior rejected her appeal. Appeals to return to work on Wednesday were flatly rejected.
A member of the West Bengal Junior Doctors’ Forum said that they will not withdraw their agitation until the aggrieved woman doctor of RG Kar Hospital gets justice and all her demands are met. Junior doctors Dr. Former Principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. Sandeep Ghosh has demanded suspension from health services and similar action should be taken against Kolkata Police Commissioner.
The agitation will continue until the demands are met.
The Doctors’ Forum also took out a rally in the northern part of Kolkata in the Shyambajar area for their demands. A member of the West Bengal Junior Doctors Forum said that we are happy to know that the Chief Minister is supporting our cause. We want to return to work but this is not possible at the moment as our demands have not been met yet. Along with this, the agitating doctors have also demanded elections in colleges, participation of junior doctors and students in all decision-making committees of medical facilities and safety measures at workplaces.
Mamata Banerjee’s appeal
Addressing a rally organized by the Trinamool Congress Chhatra Parishad, Mamata Banerjee said, “I sympathize with the doctors from the beginning, as they are demanding justice for their colleagues.” Even though so many days have passed since the incident, we have not taken any action against them. We understand your pain. But please get back to work now, because the patients are very upset.
