Vicar Rasool Wani, Congress candidate from Banihal, sentenced to 5 months in jail
Ahead of the assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir, the Congress has suffered a setback. The court has convicted former Jammu and Kashmir Congress president and Banihal seat candidate Vikar Rasool Wani and five other accused in a case. The court sentenced the five to five months imprisonment each and imposed a fine of Rs 1000 on all the five. The court has given this sentence in a 12-year-old case.
During the 2012 assembly elections, a public meeting was organized without permission in a junior high school in Mithapur village of Gulawati. This public meeting was organized by Vicar Rasool Wani. Vicar Rasool was charged with a model code of conduct. The court found the allegation true and sentenced five people including Vikar.
Apart from Vikar, the names of Bharat Bhushan Sharma, Sachin, Ikramuddin and Nazim are included among the people who have been sentenced by the court in this case. The court has sentenced all of them to five months imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 1000 each.

The first phase of voting is underway
Voting for the 90 assembly seats of Jammu and Kashmir will be held in three phases on September 18 and 25 and October 1. In the first phase, voting is going on in 24 seats including Banihal. Apart from this, voting is to be held on 26 seats in the second phase and 40 seats in the third phase. The result will be declared on October 4. Assembly elections are going to be held in Jammu and Kashmir after 10 years. The last assembly election was held here in the year 2014.
