Jharkhand farmers get pre-poll gift and bonus on rice purchase

The Jharkhand government has given a big gift to the farmers of the state. Now, during the financial year 2024-25, the state government will give a separate bonus of Rs 100 per quintal on paddy procured by the central government in the state. This simply means that the paddy farmers of the state will get an additional rate of Rs 100 on top of the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for their crop.

Recently, a state cabinet meeting was held under the chairmanship of Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, in which it was decided to give a bonus of Rs 100 per quintal of paddy to farmers in the state. The bonus was announced by the government at a time when assembly elections are almost certain to be held in the state soon.

The state government will spend Rs 60 crore

Rs 60 crore will be spent from the state exchequer to give bonus to paddy farmers. This amount has also been approved in the cabinet meeting. Cabinet Secretary Vandana Dadel says the Cabinet has approved the proposal for a bonus of Rs 100 per quintal of paddy, in addition to the Centre’s MSP. Rs 60 crore has been sanctioned in this regard. Millions of farmers in the state will benefit from this decision of the government.

Cabinet Secretary Vandana Dadel says that this year too the state government has decided to procure paddy from farmers. The state government will procure 6 lakh tonnes of paddy in this session. At the same time, the central government has fixed the MSP of paddy at Rs 2,300 per quintal for the common variety and Rs 2,320 for the A-grade variety in the financial year 2024-25.

A total of 36 proposals were approved during the state cabinet meeting. This also includes the decision to provide smartphones worth Rs 12,000 to 29,604 ‘Jal Sahiyas’ (engaged in providing drinking water services at community level) across the state.
