After returning to Ranchi from Delhi, the question is making more and more headlines in Jharkhand politics that by what deal has Champai joined the BJP? On Wednesday, when Champai was asked why he joined the BJP, he said that he decided to come here after seeing the work of Narendra Modi.
However, sources associated with Champai Soren say that Dada has been promised a bigger post after the Jharkhand elections. Currently, people close to Champa are avoiding saying anything on what the post will be.
Will BJP make Champai the Chief Minister?
The question arose in Jharkhand because at the same time Champai Soren was meeting Home Minister Amit Shah along with Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, BJP state president Babu Lal Marandi met Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
It is being said that Babu Lal Marandi is upset with Champai joining the BJP. There are two reasons for Marandi’s displeasure –
1. When Babu Lal Marandi joined the BJP in 2020, the party kept him at the forefront. BJP leaders used to talk of Hemant contesting the elections with Babulal ahead, but now the atmosphere has changed. BJP has officially announced that the party will contest elections in Jharkhand without a face.
2. People close to Marandi say that the script to bring Champai Soren to BJP was written in Delhi. Although Babu Lal Marandi was the president of the party, he was not taken into confidence in this matter. When the picture of Champai with Amit Shah came out, Babu Lal was not even in it.
Sources associated with the Jharkhand BJP say that with Champai’s arrival, the number of chief ministerial candidates in the party has definitely increased. After the Lok Sabha elections, only the name of Babu Lal Marandi was in discussion for the post of CM.
Whether Babu Lal or Champai Soren will become the Chief Minister from BJP in Jharkhand will depend on three things. 1. Will BJP form government with full majority in Jharkhand or not 2. Will Champai or Babulal win more MLAs and 3. Will both win their seats or not?
Talk about ticket to son and Governorship
There is also a discussion going on in the political circles of Jharkhand that if for some reason Champai Soren cannot become the Chief Minister of the state in the future, then he can also be made the Governor of some state. However, nothing has been said from BJP or Champai regarding this yet.
Apart from this, BJP is asking him to give ticket to his son Babulal Soren from Ghatshila seat of Singhbhum. Babulal Soren has been working in Ghatshila for a long time. The seat is currently held by JMM’s Ramdas Soren.
On all these political discussions and BJP’s deal with Champai, a Jharkhand Bharatiya Janata Party leader, on condition of anonymity, says – only Amit Shah and Champai Soren know what the deal is. The rest is being asked to create an atmosphere. Champai doesn’t want his supporters to lose their morale before the elections, so big talk is going on.
The ruling Jharkhand Mukti Morcha is seen taunting the BJP in this whole matter. Chief Minister Hemant Soren has said in a rally in Kolhan that he does not have his own leader. BJP people are buying leaders from outside to protest, but people of Jharkhand are smart and will not fall into their trap.
What did Champai get in JMM?
Champai Soren was first elected MLA from Saraikela seat in 1991 by-election. In 2009, Champai was made a minister in the Jharkhand government for the first time. After Champai became a minister in the government of Arjun Munda and Hemant Soren. In 2019, he contested Lok Sabha elections from Jamshedpur seat, but lost.
In early 2024, when Hemant Soren went to jail, the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha handed him the chief ministership.
