Jammu is generally considered a peaceful region compared to Kashmir. After the abrogation of Article 370, security forces launched a massive operation to eradicate terrorism in Kashmir. Frustrated by this operation, the terrorist outfits have now changed their tactics and are now targeting the Hindu dominated areas of Jammu. The 11 terrorist attacks in the last 78 days confirm that terrorists are plotting to target Jammu and spread unrest in the region.

Why are terrorists targeting Jammu?

Former DGP of Jammu and Kashmir SP Vaidya says that the collusion of Pakistan and China in this whole matter cannot be denied. In fact, both Pakistan and China are on the back foot because of the way security forces have handled the India-China border in Ladakh and Kashmir. So Pakistan-based terrorist organizations want the entire thrust to be shifted to Jammu.

According to SP Vaidya, the area of Jammu is suitable for terrorists as it is a hilly area covered with dense forests, while the road connectivity in the area is also not very good. In such a situation, when a terrorist attack occurs, it takes time for additional forces to arrive. The terrorists have managed to escape by taking advantage of the dense forests.

Terrorists on backfoot in Kashmir after 370 removal

After the removal of Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir, there has been a reduction in terrorist attacks. If we talk about the last 5 years, the army has killed more than 700 terrorists. In 2020, security forces killed 221 terrorists, while 180 terrorists were killed in 2021. Apart from this, 193 terrorists were eliminated in 2022, while a total of 87 terrorists were killed in 2023. Apart from this, 27 terrorists have been killed till July 13 this year.
