Voting for the first phase of assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, September 18. Yes, all the preparations for the elections have been completed. Meanwhile, the Congress party has appointed a senior AICC observer ahead of the first phase polls.
Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge has appointed former Punjab chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi and Mukesh Agnihotri as senior AICC observers for the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections. Both these leaders will monitor the elections to be held in the state. Last Monday (September 16), the Congress announced the party manifesto for the Jammu and Kashmir elections.

Congress issued a manifesto
Congress has made many promises to the people of the valley. This manifesto of the Congress has been named ‘Hath Badega Halat’. All India Congress Committee Chief Spokesperson Pawan Kheda and State Congress Committee Chief Tariq Hameed Kara released the manifesto at the party office. Every section of the society including farmers, women and youth has been taken care of in the manifesto. Many welfare measures are promised for everyone.
Elections are going to be held after 10 years
Elections are going to be held in Jammu and Kashmir for the first time in the last 10 years, which means that people here will cast their votes after 10 years. Rallies are going on in the union territory these days. 219 candidates, including 90 independents, are in the fray for 24 seats in three districts of Jammu region and four districts of Kashmir Valley.
First election after abrogation of Article 370
This is going to be the first assembly election in Jammu and Kashmir after the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019, for which the political parties as well as the people are very excited. More than 23 lakh voters in the state will exercise their franchise. Talking about the first phase of voting, according to the Election Commission, a total of 23,27,580 voters will vote in the first phase. This includes 11,76,462 males and 11,51,058 females. Along with this, 60 third gender voters will also vote. The administration is keeping full vigilance regarding the elections. Tight security arrangements have been made at the polling stations.
The result will be declared on October 8
Congress and National Conference are fighting together in Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections. Meanwhile, Awami Ittehad Party (AIP) led by Lok Sabha MP Sheikh Abdul Rashid alias Engineer Rashid and former members of the banned Jamaat-e-Islami (JEI) have joined forces. Apart from this, PDP and BJP have entered the election field alone. The first phase of polling for the 90-member assembly is on September 18, the second phase on September 25 and the third phase on October 1. The result will be declared on October 8.
