Senior BJP leader Chandra Mohan Sharma has resigned from the party on Friday. His departure from the party in the middle of the election is no less than a major setback for the BJP. He stood like a pillar with the BJP in Jammu and Kashmir for five decades.
In fact, there is dissatisfaction among many BJP leaders over the distribution of tickets for the assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir. This is also the reason for Chandra Mohan Sharma’s resignation from the party. He was upset about not getting a ticket. Speaking to the media after bidding farewell to the BJP, Chandra Mohan Sharma claimed that he will now contest as an independent candidate.
Tickets distributed without thinking – Sharma
Annoyed by not getting ticket in Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections, Chandra Mohan Sharma has resigned from BJP. He is a lawyer by profession and has been associated with the BJP since the 70s. Talking to the media in Jammu, he said that he has been associated with the BJP for a long time and is also in the Jan Sangh. During this time he also went to jail several times. He said that to whom BJP has given tickets, they have not given them thinking.
Senior leader Chandra Mohan Sharma accused the party that the Jammu and Kashmir BJP unit had not sent the list of genuine candidates to Delhi. Tickets were distributed without thought, leading to great discontent among party leaders and workers. He said he was saddened by this and was resigning along with other leaders. Chandra Mohan Sharma is upset with the announcement of another candidate for the Jammu East assembly seat.
He said he hoped the BJP top leadership would accept his resignation. However, it would be better if the party reconsiders its decision to change its candidate from Jammu East assembly seat, otherwise it will contest as an independent from Jammu East seat. In the list of candidates announced by BJP, ticket has been given to Yudhveer Sethi from Jammu East assembly seat.
