The Awami Ittihad Party (AIP), led by jailed MP Engineer Abdul Rashid Shaikh, released the party manifesto for the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly in Srinagar on Saturday. The Awami Ittihad Party in its election manifesto promised the unconditional release of all political prisoners in jail. Along with this, the party also promised to abolish laws like UAPA and PSA.
Let us tell you that assembly elections will be held in three phases from 18 September to 1 October 2024 on 90 seats of Jammu and Kashmir Assembly and the result will be declared on 8 October 2024.
This is the first election since the region’s special status was revoked and its state status withdrawn in 2019. Political activities in the state have intensified in view of the elections.

UAPA-PSA laws will be repealed
The Awami Ittihad Party, releasing its manifesto, said that if its party comes to power, not a single innocent youth will remain in jail. He said laws like UAPA and PSA would be scrapped from the state.
Expressing concern over the continued detention of political prisoners in Kashmir, the party said that as an initiative to create an environment of mutual trust and confidence among the people, all political leaders and social activists who are still under house arrest. He should be freed.
He also demanded the immediate release of AIP Chief Engineer Rashid, who has been lodged in Tihar Jail for a long time. He said that he has been a two-time MLA and also secured more than one lakh votes in the Parliament elections.
Sale of alcohol will be prohibited
In the election manifesto, the party promised that free medical check-ups would be provided in hospitals in Jammu and Kashmir and the sale of liquor would be completely banned.
On behalf of the party, it was said that the party will also work on the schemes and restoring the autonomy of Kashmir University (KU). Free computers will be given to students who pass class 8. The party also promised security to Kashmiri students and businessmen working and studying outside Jammu and Kashmir in various parts of India.
Further, while addressing a press conference, the party promised to restore the decades-old practice of durbar walks, which was discontinued by the Lt Governor-led administration in Jammu and Kashmir a few years ago.
