However, police investigation revealed that the beggar is a resident of south Delhi, his name is Kanhaiyalal. In fact, a suspect was nabbed by a social organization on Saturday evening near Chandni Chowk in the guise of a monk, suspected to be a Bangladeshi national. He was handed over to the police on the assumption that he was a Bangladeshi. When the police searched the monk, they found currencies of several countries including Qatar, Bhutan, Nepal and Bangladesh from him.
Fearing beatings, he gave his name Yusuf and also said he was from Bangladesh. But when the police interrogated him intensively, it came to know that he is a resident of South Delhi and his name is Kanhaiya Lal. During interrogation, the beggar said that he wanders to beg and lives in a rented house in Bakhri. According to the beggar, while begging, a foreign national gave him a note of Nepal and Bangladesh.
No proof of Bangladeshi citizenship found
City ASP Bhanupratap Singh said Sadhu was investigated. Investigation revealed that he is an Indian citizen and also a resident of South Delhi. He said that he came to Muzaffarpur while begging. The currency of many other countries has been recovered from him, though in very small quantities. Police say it is possible that he got the currency from a foreign national while begging in Delhi, but said there was no evidence that the beggar was Bangladeshi.
