Madhya Pradesh Higher Education Minister Inder Singh Parmar is in the news. He said in a program that America was not discovered by Columbus, but by Indians. Inder Singh Parmar says students are taught that Columbus discovered America. If one wanted to teach, one had to teach that if anyone discovered America, it was our ancestors in India. Columbus did not discover America.

Parmar made this statement while attending the convocation of Barkatulla University along with Governor Mangubhai C Patel and Chief Minister Mohan Yadav. He said that historians have systematically undermined India’s strengths and presented a negative image of India to the world due to false facts. He said that our forefathers were ahead in every aspect of knowledge, skill and ability. We should free ourselves from the inferiority complex and try to move forward by adopting better ideas.

Parmar is a lawyer by profession.

Indra Singh Parmar became an MLA from Shujalpur assembly constituency on a Bharatiya Janata Party ticket in 2018. Shujalpur assembly constituency is part of Dewas Lok Sabha constituency. It falls in Shajapur district. Once a lawyer by profession, Parmar hails from Shajapur.

Parmar got 78952 votes in 2018 election. While Ramveer Singh Sikarwar of Congress got 73329 votes. However, this seat was held by BJP earlier too. In the 2013 elections, Jaswant Singh Hada of BJP defeated Mahendra Joshi of Congress by a margin of 8656 votes in Shujalpur assembly seat.

Parmar was first elected MLA from Kalapipal in the 2013 assembly elections. At Kalapipal, Parmar defeated senior Congress leader Kedar Singh Mandaloi by more than 9 thousand votes. His political journey began in 1985 under the banner of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad. He started politics as a student leader from Jawaharlal Nehru College, Shujalpur. He was a full time Union Minister in ABVP for 8 years.
