Talks are going on between India and America regarding the deal. Here the deal is regarding the Striker tank. If this deal is finalized, then India will have a big presence near the border with China. If these Striker tanks are included, then they will prove to be a game changer for the Indian Army. Discussions between the two countries regarding the production of Striker armored fighting vehicle are in the final stage. After this agreement, armored vehicles can be produced in India. America has also proposed to India to demonstrate the speed and firepower of the eight-wheeled Striker.
According to reports, India can buy 150 Striker tanks from America. Today India is working on making new weapons on the lines of Make in India. If the India-US deal regarding Striker is finalized, then India will not only co-produce it, but America will also transfer its technology. There are 13 Indian vendors in the race for this deal.
So America made a proposal to India
After the agreement is finalized, it will have to bring technology suitable for the Indian region. In such a situation, these tanks should be able to deal easily even in high altitude areas like Ladakh and Sikkim. India needs such tanks near the border with China. These tanks should also be useful in high mountain areas. To prove this utility, America has proposed to India to demonstrate the speed and firepower of the Striker.
Indigenisation efforts
Earlier we wanted to buy these tanks from America. Later there is a program to jointly manufacture and develop future versions in India. Striker itself will be a comprehensive indigenization effort. It also includes technology transfer. Government and private companies of the defense sector will be partners in this.
What is special about Striker?
Stryker is an eight-wheeled vehicle. General Dynamics Land Systems (GDLS) is jointly developed by General Dynamics Land Systems Division of Canada and the United States.
Technically the Stryker is an Army armored vehicle.
The vehicle is armed with a 30 mm cannon and a 105 mm mobile gun.
The Striker can accommodate up to 9 soldiers.
It has a 350 horsepower Caterpillar C7 engine.
The range of Stryker is 483 km.
The Striker can reach speeds of up to 100 kmph.
The Stryker has a greater chance of surviving an IED than any other light military vehicle.
