The results of the by-election in Bihar’s Rupauli seat have come out. Independent Shankar Singh won the seat defeating both the NDA and Bharat factions. The seat fell vacant after the resignation of JDU MLA Bima Bharti. After which Bima Bharti contested Lok Sabha elections on RJD ticket, but lost the election. After losing the election, RJD made him a candidate from this seat. RJD candidate Bima Bharti is third while JDU’s Kaladhar Mandal is second.
Shankar Singh, who once ran the North Liberation Army in Kosi area, has won the Rupauli assembly by-election defeating all the political bigwigs of Bihar. In Rupauli, both the RJD and the JDU gave tickets to candidates belonging to the Gangauta caste, i.e. extremely backward. However, independent Shankar has won by destroying all caste equations.
Elections were held after Bima Bharti’s resignation
The Rupauli by-election is being considered as the quarter final of power in Bihar. Assembly elections are going to be held in Bihar next year. The Rupauli seat fell vacant after the resignation of former JDU MLA Bima Bharti. Bima Bharti became an independent MLA from Rupauli in 2000. After which Bima has been an MLA on JDU ticket continuously since 2005. This time, Bima took a gamble to contest the Lok Sabha elections; She resigned from the JDU and joined the RJD camp. RJD had fielded him from Purnia.
Bima Bharti lost the Lok Sabha elections. But the RJD made Bima its candidate in the by-election held on the Rupauli seat, which fell vacant due to Bima’s resignation from the post of MLA. Bima Bharti and independent Pappu Yadav had a fierce clash and fight in Purnia seat. Pappu Yadav had to contest as an independent candidate, while after winning the independent election from Purnia, Pappu Yadav was seen making a statement in support of Bima Bharti in the Rupauli by-election.
Neither India nor NDA
Despite a concerted effort by the Congress including Nitish Kumar, Vijay Sinha, Samrat Chaudhary, Chirag, Manjhi and India’s Tejashwi Yadav in Rupauli, this defeat in Bihar is a big lesson for the NDA and India. However, even during the election campaign of independent Shankar Singh, there was talk that Shankar Singh would remain in the NDA camp after winning the election. Shankar Singh has also been associated with the LJP for a long time.
Election Semi-Finals
The final assembly elections are to be held in Bihar next year. Before this, the power semi-final is yet to be held in Bihar. Four MLAs from Bihar (Jitan Ram Manjhi, RJD’s Sudhakar Singh, Surendra Yadav, CPI(ML)’s Sudama Singh) have become MPs in the Lok Sabha elections. By-elections will also be held on these three seats. Which is being considered as the semi-final of the election.
