What did Shabana Azmi say on the Hema Committee report?
Indian International Film Academy Awards (IIFA) are going on these days in Abu Dhabi, the capital of UAE. Along with Bollywood, South film industry stars have also reached there. Javed Akhtar’s wife Shabana Azmi is also in Abu Dhabi. During an interaction with the media at IIFA, he gave his reaction to the Hema Committee report.
When Shabana Azmi was asked about the Hema Committee report, which deals with women actors working in the Malayalam film industry, she said, “You have to understand that women in India have had their own journey for centuries. From the 16th to the 21st century, they progressed, but were suppressed. He also says, “In India, like India, women are symbols of progress and oppression.”
Asked to re-release this film
In the same conversation, he went on to say that there are many such stories that we need to rethink. He insisted on the re-release of one of his old films. That movie is ‘Artha’. This film directed by Mahesh Bhatt was released in the year 1982. Stars like Smita Patil, Kulbhushan Kharbanda were also seen in this film along with Shabana Azmi. She spoke of re-releasing the film because it portrayed the women’s movement.

What is the Hema Committee Report?
In fact, a committee named Hema Committee was formed in the year 2017 regarding the status of women working in the Malayalam film industry. The committee’s report was made public on August 19 this year, after which cases like sexual harassment of female actors and casting couch came to light. Serious allegations were made against many big actors and filmmakers.
