Mamata Banerjee and CV Anand Bose
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Governor CV Anand Bose are facing each other. There is a line of swords between the two regarding the oath-taking process of the newly elected four MLAs. CM Mamata Banerjee has alleged that the Governor has created unnecessary hurdles in the swearing-in process of four newly elected MLAs. Four TMC MLAs Supti Pandey, Madhuparna Thakur, Mukutamani Adhikari and Krishna Kalyani took oath on Tuesday.
Mamata said, he (Governor) should know that Raj Bhavan is chosen and assembly elections are held. He can impose penalties only on elected people. You should follow the constitution and not be partial to any particular political party. He asked why the Governor did not come to the Legislative Assembly to administer oath to the four MLAs.
What else did Mamata say?
The love for the governor did not stop here. He further said that the Governor should act according to the law. The Governor has also imposed a fine of Rs 500 per day on the two newly elected MLAs Sayantika Banerjee and Rayat Hussain Sarkar. Referring to it, the Chief Minister said, what will you do with 500 rupees? Do you want tiffin money? Ask me and I will arrange it. Instead of appreciating MLAs elected on the basis of mandate, you are penalizing them. This is cruelty, an attempt to crush the dreams of two newly elected MLAs.

On Monday, the Governor told the two MLAs that their swearing-in on July 5 was an instance of constitutional invalidity and hence they would have to pay a fine of Rs 500 per day if they participated in the proceedings of the Assembly or voted in the House. In the letter, the Governor argued that he had entrusted the task of administering oath to Vice President Ashish Banerjee and not the Speaker.
CM Mamata Banerjee said on this, but the Deputy Speaker showed incompetence and asked the Speaker to administer the oath. Where is the mistake in this? The Deputy Speaker did not want to take the oath in the presence of the Speaker. This session is recorded. The CM said that I fully support the Speaker. What the speaker did is right. Democracy has tradition. The tradition is that newly elected MLAs take oath in the assembly. Mamata Banerjee said that the Speaker followed Rule 5 of the Procedure and Conduct of the West Bengal Legislative Assembly. There is nothing unconstitutional about this.
Why was the penalty imposed?
The government said the e-mail informed the two MLAs that they have been fined Rs 500 as it is alleged that their oath-taking and presence on the first day of the assembly session violated constitutional norms. . Sayantika Banerjee said, We met the Assembly Speaker and showed him the email. He said that the Speaker’s office is looking into the issue. We understand that we have no objection to participate in the session as elected representatives after taking oath in the Legislative Assembly, the so-called temple of democracy.
