National Conference Vice President Omar Abdullah.
The political temperature of Jammu and Kashmir is high regarding the assembly elections. Parties are making many promises and claims to win over the people in their favour. National Conference (NC) leader Omar Abdullah has promised in this regard. He has said that if he comes to power, he will abolish the PSA (Public Safety Act). Omar has also reacted to the alliance with the Congress.
Referring to the PSA by former Jammu and Kashmir CM Omar Abdullah, Omar said, people face many problems. Some people are rotting in jail. Some are being harassed. The NC has made it clear in its manifesto that PSA will be completely removed from Jammu and Kashmir if it comes to power.
The party had to give up those seats in this alliance
Addressing the meeting of workers, Omar Abdullah said that it is not easy to form an alliance with the Congress before the elections. In this alliance, the party had to give up seats where it was confident of winning. However, the decision was so effective that the result was clear as soon as the coalition was decided.
Ghulam Nabi Azad distanced himself from the election campaign
Omar said the result came when former chief minister Ghulam Nabi Azad withdrew from election campaigning. He said that this is not his or his leaders’ fight, but a collective fight. This fight will give relief to the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
PSA came under whose government?
The PSA (Public Safety Act) allows arrest or detention without trial. The Act that Omar is talking about repealing was brought in by the government of National Conference founder Sheikh Abdullah in 1978. It was implemented to stop timber smuggling in Jammu and Kashmir.
