Karan Johar’s father Yash Johar, before becoming a producer, worked as an executive producer in the film industry for a long time. But no one knows what Karan Johar’s family did before entering the industry. Recently, in Sony TV’s new comedy chat show ‘Aapka Apna Zakir’, Karan Johar made an interesting revelation about his old family business. Karan Johar’s words reveal that if his grandmother had not taken a big decision, this famous director of the country would have become a mere confectioner.
Karan Johar said, “I have never felt in my life that I have done wonders at the box office. I am always afraid that my film will sink, the money will go and I will be on the way. I think about this every day because I am the son of a producer. My father was a production controller. He worked as a production controller for almost 30 years. Papa worked with many big directors. But at that time he was not a producer.

The films flopped
Karan Johar further said, “When he (my father) became a producer, he made ‘Dostana’. He made that film by taking many loans and that film was also successful. After the hit of Dostana, Papa made several films and all flopped. There is a different reaction from the industry when films don’t play. I remember when we used to get invitations for film premieres, people from the film industry used to sit in stalls and watch films, because there were no multiplexes in those days. At that time, the father was given the front row seat at the film’s premiere, the worst seat ever. I have seen that sadness in father’s eyes. If you don’t want to be respected, don’t call. It is very sad to see him with this failure.”
Karan remembers his father
An emotional Karan Johar shared that if dad was here today, he would have been so happy for me. I’m just sad that he left too soon. My film was released in 1998 and he left this world in 2004. He has seen only 5 or 6 years of my journey. I still feel sad that my father was not with me when Dharma Productions was going through its best phase.
Look how shocked Karan was! #AAZ To the key team.

Karan Johar would have stayed as a confectioner
In fact Jauhar He is the second generation of the family, which is currently active in Bollywood. Giving an interesting explanation about this, Karan Johar said that his family is from Delhi and he had a family business of making sweets in Delhi. ‘Nanking Sweet’ was the name of his shop. Seeing his father’s interest in photography, Karan Johar’s grandmother decided to fulfill his dream. The day Karan’s father Yash Johar was about to sit on the shop floor, his grandmother told him to run away, because if you stay here, you’ll be doing this for the rest of your life. I will explain to your father. That is, if Karan Johar’s grandmother had not advised his father to run away from home, Karan Johar would have been working as a confectioner in Delhi.
