A special session has been called to introduce this bill in the state. Although this is not the first time that a state government has introduced such bills for rape and serious crimes against women and children, two states have already attempted to introduce such bills. Andhra Pradesh tried to introduce a direction bill in 2019 and Maharashtra started a campaign to introduce a Shakti bill in 2020, but the bill was not approved.

Kolkata rape case case is currently in the hands of CBI and CBI is uncovering and investigating every level of this case. The CBI had on September 2 arrested Sandeep Ghosh, the former principal of the medical college, on charges of corruption.
