Questions are being raised about the role of the police in the case of the rape and murder of a lady doctor at RG Kar Medical and Hospital. Now again the police have been accused of negligence in the investigation in the rape case of an IAS officer’s wife. The question was raised in the court that even after the complaint of rape was registered, why no medical examination was done? Last July, the accused in that incident was on bail on the orders of the lower court. The Calcutta High Court canceled the bail order on Friday. The investigating officer has also been transferred.
Along with this, the Calcutta High Court has ordered the investigation of the alleged rape of the wife of a government employee posted outside West Bengal to be handed over to a Deputy Commissioner level officer.
After this instruction of the court, the opposition has once again directly pointed the finger at the state government. The BJP claims that like the RG Kar case, there was an attempt to suppress evidence in this case as well.
IAS officer’s wife raped at gunpoint
The incident took place on the night of 14 and 15 July. The accused barged into the victim’s house at 11:30 pm and raped the victim at gunpoint, the next day after the incident the victim filed a complaint at the Lake Police Station in Kolkata, but had to wait for hours before lodging the complaint. . Although the nature of the crime was serious, the police imposed less severe penalties.
The victim’s wife, an IAS officer working outside the state, alleged that despite serious allegations of sexual harassment, the FIR was initially registered on frivolous grounds. A case was filed in the Calcutta High Court on that complaint. Hearing the case on Friday, Justice Rajarshi Bharadwaj said, ‘Allegations of not registering the FIR properly at the outset and distorting the charge sheet have raised questions about the transparency of this investigation.’
The court ordered an inquiry against the police officials
Justice Bharadwaj, in his observations, said there was no scrutiny of the CCTV footage of the incident where the victim was threatened by the family of the accused at the police station.
The Calcutta High Court on Friday rejected the accused’s bail and anticipatory bail and ordered the case to be handed over to a woman police officer of the rank of Deputy Commissioner of Kolkata Police. Besides, the Kolkata Police Commissioner was directed to take action against the Lake Police OC, a sub-inspector, a sergeant and three women police officers.
Amit Malviya raised questions
BJP has condemned the role of the state government after the High Court order. BJP’s IT cell chief Amit Malviya has written and reminded that both Mamata Banerjee and Lalu Prasad Yadav are currently part of Bharat Gatbandhan. Amit Malviya has compared it with the RG Tax case in this regard.
After the rape and murder of a young woman doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, another shocking incident has come to light from West Bengal.

It may be noted that the state has claimed in the court that as there was no woman investigating officer present at Lake police station to register the complaint, a woman officer was called from Kadia police station. The state further claimed that the victim herself went to a government hospital and submitted a medical report to the police. Injuries on various parts of the body were mentioned, but there was no mention of bleeding anywhere.
