Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav on Monday announced that this year the Dada Saheb Phalke Award will be given to legendary actor Mithun Chakraborty. On being selected for this great honour, Mithun Chakraborty said, “I have no words. He said where I came from, I could not imagine that I would get this.
When the names for the award were announced, Mithun Chakraborty said, “To be honest, I am speechless. I can neither laugh nor cry for joy. This is a big deal. Where I come from in Kolkata. From the land in such blind area. I came here after fighting on the sidewalk. Such a big honor for that boy, I can’t really imagine… I can only say that I dedicate this to my family and my fans around the world.

On announcing that Mithun would receive the award, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, “I am delighted that Mithun Chakraborty will be honored with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award for his contribution to Indian cinema.” PM Modi called Mithun a cultural icon and said that every generation loves him for his versatile performances. What did son Namashi Chakraborty say?
Mithun’s son and actor Namashi Chakraborty also expressed his happiness at the announcement of his father receiving the honour. Talking to India Today, he said that his father is a self-made star. He said, “I feel proud and honored. Mari Pika is a self-made superstar and an excellent citizen. His life journey is an inspiration to millions of people. “We are all proud of this honor.”
