New faces in the 12-member cabinet, including the chief minister, include Congress Jamtara MLA Irfan Ansari, Mahagama MLA Deepika Pandey Singh and JMM Latehar MLA Baidyanath Ram. Chief Minister Hemant Soren’s brother Basant Soren and Badal Patralekh, who were ministers in the Champai Soren government, have not been included in the government this time.

Received a vote of confidence in the assembly

The Hemant Soren government had also won a trust vote in the assembly before the cabinet expansion. Opposition members staged a walkout during the trust vote and walked out of the House. Soon after this, Soren expanded the cabinet and new ministers were also sworn in at the Raj Bhavan.

Hemant Soren, who is in jail in the alleged land scam, was granted bail by the High Court on June 28. After being released from jail, Hemant Soren once again took charge of the government and became the Chief Minister. The Enforcement Directorate arrested Soren on January 31 in an alleged scam case. Shortly before the arrest, Soren had resigned from the post of Chief Minister.
