Orange alert for rain in Delhi

The people of Delhi NCR, who have been facing scorching heat, may now face the brunt of rain. The Meteorological Department has issued a warning of heavy rain in Delhi for the next few days. According to the Meteorological Department, Delhi is likely to receive heavy rainfall for the next three days, hence an orange alert has been issued. Monsoon has arrived in Delhi, so the rain that started on Thursday night has been seen in many places on Saturday morning as well.

Rain was seen in many areas of Delhi including Burari, Rohini on Saturday morning. According to Met department data, Delhi’s Safdarjung recorded 8.9 mm of rain and Lodhi Road recorded 12.6 mm of rain. Heavy rain was predicted in parts of Delhi NCR on Saturday. Heavy to very heavy rain is likely on Sunday and Monday. The Meteorological Department has predicted moderate to heavy rain in Delhi for the next three days.

According to the IMD, if the rainfall is between 7.6 to 35.5 mm it is kept in the moderate rainfall category, while if the rainfall is between 64.5 to 124.4 mm it is kept in the heavy rainfall category. On Saturday, the maximum temperature in Delhi was recorded at 35.6 degrees while the minimum temperature was around 28 degrees. However, people felt the humid heat during the day on Friday and Saturday.

An 88-year-old record was broken

Delhi’s rainfall on Friday broke an 88-year-old record. Delhi recorded 228.1 mm rainfall on Friday, the highest rainfall in June since 1936. In the first rain itself, Delhi has received one-third of the total monsoon rainfall. Due to heavy rains in Delhi on Friday, there has been a lot of damage. A portion of the roof of Terminal 1 collapsed, killing one person. Movement of flights and trains were also affected.
